Resumes: A cry for help!

Who invented the resume? Whoever it was should be shot. I think that interviews should all be done telepathically. It would cut out a lot of stress. I am applying for a promotion within my company, and writing this resume is so hard! Especially since two of my last three jobs have been within the company, so I can't lie about my achievements. That is basically what resumes and interviews are. A collection of lies:)! If any of you out there are really good at stuff like this, or if you have any pointers, please let me know! I will take any advice or tips. Thanks so much!

Music Snob part Deux

"Green Day: The Band That Saved Rock and Roll." This was a recent headline that I saw on a magazine. I think it was Entertainment Weekly. If I didn't already have qualms about this band, I would have after that. Of all the rock bands out there, they picked Green Day? What does that say about our society? I admit that I don't always change the station when they come on the radio. Such was the case today. Their new song (Holiday?) was on. I was listening to the words towards the end when they were totally bashing on President Bush. I think some people take the first amendment a little too far, but that is a topic for another day. Anyway.... I took a moment and reflected on another of their recent songs, American Idiot. In this song, they say that us as Americans are stupid for listening and relying on the media. HELLO!!!! What are they trying to do here? What were they trying to do when they were promoting John Kerry? They (and not just Green Day) are trying to make us do exactly what we are told. To the media, we are lemmings just looking for a cliff. I refuse to be a conformist! There. I have had my rant for today. :)

Water Woes

Grrrrrr. I had so much to do today. I was going to deep clean the whole house and do laundry. Unfortunately, someone knocked at my door at 8:30 this morning to tell me that the water would be turned off for an unknown amount of time. I can't do anything! I can't even turn on the air conditioner! All because someone down the street has a leak. Why should I have to pay for other people's faulty pipes:)? It just doesn't seem fair! Now I have to resort to a lazy day off. Maybe I will go and ride my new bike.... Well, I guess it isn't really new. I bought it for 25 buck-a-roos from the D.I. the other day. It seems like it works okay. The tires are inflated, the brakes work, and there are no visible cracks or lesions. I am going to go check and see how it rides, and I will keep you all updated!:)
11 more shopping days til my birthday!

All Things Disney

My friend made this collage for me. I love looking at it. It makes me feel like a kid again. And, in two weeks, I will be in Disneyland! Zip a dee do dah!:) I used to work at Disneyworld, and even after seeing the "dark side" of the happiest place on Earth, you can't become disenchanted. There is no hating Disney. Anyone who says that they do is lying!

Changing my mind...

I think I might have to retract my last blog about people dying. I had three of my residents pass away last night, and I am really depressed. I don't think my job has ever been this hard for me. I believe that this makes 7 people this month. And it has been harder for me than I want to admit. I think that I try to pretend like it is easy so that it isn't more difficult for me to handle. I don't know if that really makes any sense. I just get to know these people so well. They become like grandparents to me. I know most of them better than I ever knew my own grandparents. At least I know that they are happier now. The fact that they are with their spouses and families makes it a lot easier. But, it is still hard for us here on Earth. That is who we mourn for. We don't feel sorry for those who have left us. We feel sorry for those of us who now have to live without them.

Trials

Isn't it kind of cool how well the Lord knows us? There are certain trials in life that are so hard for me to deal with, and then there are others that aren't so bad. And they are kind of opposite of the norm. I can handle death and sickness with no problems. I cannot handle rejection and confrontation. Like at all. I avoid it like the plague! And that is a bad thing. I can't even confront my friends! The one person in this world that I can stand up to (outside of my family) is my boss. I think that might be a little backwards. That is the one person that I should listen to without question. Oh well. I guess it could be a step in the right direction. But, luckily, I get to deal with death a whole lot more than I have to deal with the other one. Everytime someone dies (usually about 1 every week or so) I remember that the Lord is mindful of what I can handle and what I can't:)! I know, I know, I am odd. But at least I have learned to embrace my weirdness. And that is a good feeling!

Batman and BBQ

These two things are completely unrelated, except for maybe a little alliteration. And, that I have seen (or done) both in the past 24 hours. :) Last night, I went and saw the new Batman movie, which is great by the way. I reluctantly admit that I have never seen any of the other Batman movies, the tv show, or read any of the comics. It has actually been that way with the whole genre. Spiderman, X-Men........ I knew nothing about these stories before I watched the movie, yet I loved all of them! I recommend Batman Begins to anyone who wants to watch a good adventure. This might be considered sacrilege, but I liked it better than Episode III. And for the ladies, Christian Bale is a severe hottie!:) I mean, he was a Newsie for heavens sake. It can't get much better than that!

BBQing was also fun. I got to play with fire and not get yelled at. It was great! Even though someone's hand almost got burned off...... my first grilling adventure of the year turned out fairly well. I had some excellent Lemon Pepper Chicken. Tasty. And now that I have a BBQ at my house, I might be cooking up a lot more meat. I had better keep the Fire Department on speed dial....

High School Reunion

This past Sunday, I saw a ton of my old friends from high school. As much fun as I had seeing everyone, it made me feel old. It has been four years since I graduated high school. I know that doesn't seem like a long time to some of you out there, but to me, it does. That is like a fifth of my life! And, I haven't accomplished a lot of the things that I had hoped to by my five year reunion. I have one more year to: see Italy, find a cure for Fibro Mayalgia, finish school, and various other goals that I will not discuss here:). I had better get crackin! That is a lot to do in a year! Now I am stressed! On the bright side of things, I think I have accomplished some worthy goals. I have a good job that I love, I am continuing in school, I am living on my own, and I really like where I am in life right now. I don't know too many people who can honestly say that. So, that makes me feel a little bit better. Now, if only I could win lots of money and cross that Italy thing off my list.....

Fondue....Mmmmmm

Fondue should be illegal. It isn't fair for something to be that good. The other foods are jealous! Seriously though. It is my favorite food of all time. I guess it isn't really so much a food, as a style of cooking...... but, regardless, I love it! I think I might have found Nirvana earlier this evening. I went to a glorious eating establishment called The Melting Pot. I have been there before, but I don't think I remembered how good it was. It is a fondue restaurant. They have various different styles of cheese and chocolate fondue. They also have meat fondue for the main course and salads. I don't know why people waste their time on the meat. And salads? I mean come on! I could even live without the chocolate fondue. I know I could be tarred and feathered by every women who has ever lived for saying that, but it is true. The cheese is where it is all at. I think cheese is the best thing to come from cows (and other barnyard animals). Cheese just might be the best food ever. The sharper the better. Mmmmmm. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. Some ladies want boxes of chocolate and roses. I would so much rather just have a brick of Gruyere cheese. Or if you want to get really fancy, ungrated Parmesan. Or Feta. I love Feta. Or maybe some myzithra. Cream cheese, string cheese, cottage cheese, it really doesn't make any difference! I just found the coolest website: www.cheese.com. You can search cheeses by name, country, texture, or milk type. I highly recommend it!

Music Snob

Someone the other day called me a music snob. I am not sure how to take that. Is it a good thing? This comment stemmed from a conversation I had with a co-worker. She was trying to tell me about the titles of the cd's of one of my favorite artists. She kept telling me that their most recent cd was their first one. I kept trying to tell her that it wasn't, it was their 4th, but she wouldn't listen. Finally, I conceded. This prompted another co-worker to say that I was a music snob. It got me to thinking. What makes a music snob? I have a lot of favorite bands and enjoy many different genres of music. I really like the current British bands. But, they don't seem to be as popular here. Take Robbie Williams for instance. He is one of the largest selling artists in the entire world. But, most people I know have never heard of him, until I enlighten them.... I have to order most of his cd's online. I really think I was born in the wrong country!:) I also really like 80's music. I don't know what it is, but everytime I hear something from the 80's, I just have to smile! I also really like the random bands like They Might Be Giants, Violent Femmes, Barenaked Ladies, and let's throw Jason Mraz in there for good measure. I also LOVE going to concerts. I don't care (mostly) who is playing. I don't even mind paying ridiculous amounts of money for tickets. I think they are the best form of entertainment out there. Sadly, we don't get a whole lot of concerts coming through Salt Lake. Things are getting better though. I await the day, however, that I don't have to go to Denver or Vegas to see the shows that I really want to see.
